How To Survive In Hot Weather

5 Drinks to Beat The Heat

These day our environment become more hotter than usual. Some places like jungle easily burn out and for the site workers must been so thirsty with this kind of situation. Actually all people in Malaysia now facing this problem and what kind of beverages can help us out??

Drinks that can help to cool us down are usually equipped with cooling properties and not as sweet as ‘ais kacang’ or ‘cendol’. This is a list of my personal pick on what drinks that can whisk away the heat immediately.

Cincau

Cincau or grass jelly is my all-time favourite drink on a hot day. As you may know, cincau has cooling properties and it is made out of a plant known as Mesona chinensis (member of the mint family). Today, you can enjoy cincau in Taiwanese bubble tea drinks; iced cold milk tea and cincau toppings. In South East Asia, cincau is famous for its ‘Michael Jackson’ version; cold soy milk and cincau. If you like cincau to be sweeter, you can even go for ‘cincau sirap bandung’ and the Indonesian version; Happy Soda (cincau, sirap, milk and soda water).

Barley Lime

This tangy sweet drink is lovely when served cold. Do you know that barley is actually a cereal grain? It is a key ingredient for sweet soups, health food and also a staple food for Tibetans. You can choose to drink barley water with or without sugar. Add lime to give it that refreshing zest taste.

Air Mata Kucing

You can call it ‘air mata kucing’ or ‘lou huon guo’, it is one of the tastiest drinks that can immediately satisfy your thirst. The most popular ‘air mata kucing’ in Malaysia is known to be in Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur. Other than being able to cool you down, this drink can also expel phlegm and stop coughs if it is served as a hot drink. Today, you can get it as a canned drink and can easily find it in local restaurants.

Assam Boi

For those who enjoy ‘assam’ or dried prunes, this cold drink is meant to tease your taste buds. Sourish, tangy and salty, ‘assam boi’ is made of water, ‘assam’ and sugar. If you like it, you’ll probably get addicted to it. I used to enjoy the ‘assam boi’ ais pop when I was still a primary school student. It was one of the best ‘dessert’ when classes were dismissed and all I had was just ten cents.

Iced Tea

Good ol’ iced tea tastes great, with or without lime and it is one of those drinks you’ll simply order on a hot day. It is also by far the easiest drink to get in restaurants and sold as a bottled or canned drink. Just be careful with the generous amount of sugar your local ‘mamak’ has added in your iced tea. Too much sugar can cause you to feel thirsty all over again.

But, behind all this beverages there is one drink that we must ready bring with us all the time. It is MINERAL WATER because all sweat beverages will make us easily thirst. Just be prepare for the worst.
